Packing Tips

MAKE A LIST

Take the time to separate things by room, by use or by any system that makes sense to you. Make several copies of your list. Label each side of your boxes or totes with the general items inside. Doing this in the beginning will save so much time in the future.

SAY GOODBYE TO UNUSED STUFF

Think about what you are storing and if it will be useful to you now or in the future when it is retrieved from storage. If you have not used that item or worn it and were unaware that you had it, maybe it is time to let it go. Donating unused items will make you feel like nothing has gone to waste.

GET STURDY, UNIFORM PACKING SUPPLIES

Make sure to pick up boxes, packing for fragile items, markers and packaging tape. You might need a furniture dolly for heavy boxes of books or other heavy items. Plastic wrapping furniture helps to prevent dust from accumulating on cushions and material.

PACK THE BASICS YOURSELF

If you are moving to a new home, make sure that you personally pack the most needed items last. They will need to be located first, so place them as close to the door as possible. This will make moving easier when you have basics taken care of before moving all the items that you do not use everyday.
